Patrick Harrison III was born on February 12, 1865, in a small town in Mississippi. He was the third of eight children born to Patrick Harrison II and Mary Harrison. His father was a farmer and his mother was a schoolteacher.
Patrick's early years were spent on the family farm. He helped his father with the crops and livestock, and he also attended a one-room schoolhouse. As a child, Patrick was known for his intelligence and his love of learning. He was also a talented athlete, and he excelled in baseball and track.
In 1885, Patrick graduated from high school and enrolled in college at the University of Mississippi. He studied law, and he graduated in 1889 with honors. After graduating from college, Patrick returned to his hometown and opened a law practice.
Patrick was a successful lawyer, and he quickly became one of the most respected attorneys in the county. He was also active in politics, and he served as a state representative from 1892 to 1896. In 1896, Patrick was elected to the United States Congress, where he served for two terms.
In 1904, Patrick married Mary Smith, the daughter of a wealthy plantation owner. The couple had four children: Patrick IV, Mary, Elizabeth, and John.
Patrick continued to practice law and serve in Congress until 1916, when he was appointed to the federal bench. He served as a federal judge for 20 years, and he retired in 1936.
After retiring from the bench, Patrick returned to his hometown and lived a quiet life. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, and he also wrote a book about his life experiences.
Patrick Harrison III died on January 10, 1950, at the age of 84. He was a remarkable man who lived a long and adventurous life. He was a successful lawyer, a respected politician, and a devoted family man.
