Formatting Citations
The basic format of an APA citation includes the author's name, the year of publication, and the title of the work. For example:
Smith, J. (2020). The psychology of writing. New York: Oxford University Press.
If the work has more than one author, list all of the authors' names in the citation. For example:
Jones, M., Smith, J., & Brown, K. (2020). The psychology of writing. New York: Oxford University Press.
If the work has no author, begin the citation with the title of the work. For example:
The psychology of writing. (2020). New York: Oxford University Press.
In-Text Citations
In-text citations are used to indicate where you have used information from another source in your writing. In-text citations should be placed at the end of the sentence or paragraph where you have used the information. The in-text citation should include the author's last name and the year of publication. For example:
According to Smith (2020),the psychology of writing is a complex process.
If the work has more than one author, use the first author's last name followed by "et al." in the in-text citation. For example:
According to Jones et al. (2020),the psychology of writing is a complex process.
If the work has no author, use the title of the work in the in-text citation. For example:
According to The psychology of writing (2020),the psychology of writing is a complex process.
Reference List
The reference list is a list of all the sources that you have cited in your writing. The reference list should be placed at the end of your document. The reference list should be double-spaced and should be arranged alphabetically by author's last name. For example:
Jones, M., Smith, J., & Brown, K. (2020). The psychology of writing. New York: Oxford University Press. Smith, J. (2020). The psychology of writing. New York: Oxford University Press. The psychology of writing. (2020). New York: Oxford University Press.
